Burnt Toast

Burnt Toast by Teri Hatcher...yes, Susan from Desperate Housewives, a 40-year old single mother who wrote a book called Burnt Toast in which she shares several eye-opening and heart -warming personal tales that reflects the struggles of women as they continue to play their roles as a daughter, mother and wife, all whilst fighting not to let go of their own identity as an individual.
The book was recommended by Oprah Winfrey (a woman i adore for her strength and humility) during one of her shows where she interviewed Teri Hatcher about the very same book. I had been looking out for this book for awhile now, but for some reason just yesterday as I was browsing through the books at MPH, this book caught my eye..."Burnt Toast" on a shelf filled with books about hobbies. I'm thinking maybe someone might have put it there to come and get it later or maybe someone was just lazy to put it back where it belonged. Either way, it came into my hands at a very good time indeed, something which I noticed as the rest of my day unfolded.
I read the book, or actually I was glued to it. I guess its true what they say, "we see things as we are, not as they are." Whether we realise it or not, we are changing everyday. Perhaps the next time I read it, I would find different life lessons from the book to be more pertinent than what seemed to be the most significant insights as I read it this time. I've found that to be true when I re-read some books which I had read a long time ago. I guess maybe thats why some people may love a certain book/article, and some completely can't fathom its worth.
To all my women friends out there, read it and judge for yourselves. I sincerely hope that each of us would have to eat less burnt toast than our mothers did!
