Progressive Indian Woman of Today

This is a forwarded article....very amusing, but in many ways the way things should be..or shouldn't be, you be the judge of that...just thought i'd share it with u all :)

It is a myth that when a son gets married and a new daughter in law arrives in the family, everything changes. Some daughters in law arewell trained and well mannered!!!!!. They don't come to change the family, they are there to............

The new wife (progressive Indian woman of today) was being welcomed atthe husband's home in a traditional manner. As expected she gave a speech:My dear family, I thank you for welcoming me in my new home and family", she said "

Firstly, my being here does not mean that I would want tochange your way of life, your routine. No, I will never do that, never in a million years".

"What do you mean my child?" Asked the father in law.

"What I mean dad is (looking at her father in law):
Those who used to wash dishes must carry on washing them. Those who used to do the laundry must carry on doing it.Those who cooked shouldn't stop at my account, and those who used to clean should continue cleaning"."

Then what are you here for?" Asked the mother in law."

As for me, my job is to entertain your son!"

You Tell On Yourself...

Parents play a major role in moulding the character and personality of their children in the early years. Once we enter our teen years, we tend to emulate so-called "idols" be it friends, actors, singers etc. In early adulthood, perhaps we look more to our teachers/lecturers, great achievers (past and present) and so on. All of these influences have helped in creating the person we are today.
I had always thought that my actions were always reflective of the person I am inside. But a recent "eye-opening" incident made me realise that it was not always the case. I was never quite aware of the significance of all the little things we do and the impression it leaves on others. This recent incident made me recall a little something my dad had given me several years ago with this piece of advice "always carry yourself well" and from my mum "be a lady". Here is the "poem" my dad had given me ... food for thought :)

You Tell On Yourself

You tell on yourself
By the words you speak, by the friends you seek,
By the way you employ your leisure time,
By the use you make of your dollar and dime,
You tell what you are by the things you wear,
By the spirit you, your burdens bear,
By the kind of things at which you laugh,
By the songs you sing, just a paragraph,
You tell what you are by the way you walk,
By the things of which you delight to talk,
By the manner in which you bear defeat,
By so simple a thing as the way you eat,
By the books you choose from a well-filled shelf,
In these things and more – you tell on yourself –
